Last week we took a few days to just get away as a couple without the boys. There’s so many things changing right now for us it was so important to do something for just us so we can relax and reset and this trip did just the trick! We started in Stowe, VT and ended in Portland, ME. Truly the best 4 days with my love.

Life comes at you fast and I truly believe dating your husband is one of the most important things you can do. We hold our relationship to the utmost importance and believe the time we spend together alone is some of the most important times.

Don’t get me wrong, we love our babies but it’s so healthy to take time away! If you’re looking for something not too far then keep reading! I’ll be starting a post on Portland, ME as well with all of our recommendations but first let’s talk about Stowe!

First stop is our hotel! We stayed at the Fairfield Waterbury. We are Marriot members so we always check with Marriot first and this chalet inspired hotel was the perfect place to stay. We spent one night there and it was 2 minutes from Waterbury town center and 10 from Stowe town center. We needed to stay somewhere central because we went up there for something specific (and one day I bet I’ll be able to tell you in a blog post 🤣 but not today!)

It’s also important to note how most places book up so fast so it’s important to book well in advance which we didn’t do because we planned with over dinner a month ago 🤣🥹

We’ve already decided next time we stay we will book well in advance to stay in a lodge or inn to get the whole experience but this hotel did the trick. It was clean, quiet, centrally located the staff was incredibly friendly.

For dinner we stopped at the Prohibition Pig which is known locally for their beers and barbecue, two things that we really enjoy!

We did dinner and drinks and because it’s a small town, it was definitely the latest place open which was fine with us! We were up early the next day to continue on our trip!

We stopped at Black Cap for coffee and a quick breakfast. Their menu was amazing and their pastry display was absolutely mouth watering.

We spent the morning walking through town and stopping at the sweetest stores.

You can’t go to Stowe without going to Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. We went on a factory tour and got to see how their ice cream is made which was so cool.

We tried the churro ice cream after the tour and it was A M A Z I N G. Now I’ll be on the lookout every single store I walk into, that’s for sure.

They even have a flavor graveyard with all of the flavors that they have retired on actual gravestones 🤣 some of the flavors sounded good and others not so much!

Next up we stopped at the Von Trapp Beir Hall. The brewery is situated at the top of a mountain where the Von Trapp family also owns a well known cross country skiing resort. The brewery’s menu is derived from the owners Austrian roots and the animals in the restaurant were safely hunted on game reserves. It was a trip but it was pretty cool to see. The beer wasn’t too bad either!

After we spent some time at the brewery we went to Stowe Mountain Resort and ate lunch at the Alpine Restaurant. Joe got an out of this world confit duck grilled cheese with blueberry jam and O M G don’t knock it until you try it.

From there we did some sightseeing and then eventually made it back on the road to head down to Portland, ME for three days. In hindsight we should have reversed the time we stayed in each city especially because of why we were in Stowe but it all worked out and we had a blast! It was everything we were looking for in the town which made us pretty happy and it should bring lots of excitement to us on the future!

Keep your eyes open for part 2 – Portland, ME!
